Why we built EmojiClip
EmojiClip started with a practical writing problem. While drafting articles, documents, and social posts, I often needed emoji—especially flags—but finding the right symbol repeatedly interrupted the writing flow.
Built-in emoji panels do not always understand the search terms people naturally use. Many emoji websites also give every symbol its own detail page, turning a simple copy action into several steps through search results, detail pages, and copy controls. I built EmojiClip to shorten that path: use the names and keywords on the current language page, compare candidates, and click to copy. The Chinese page additionally supports common Pinyin.
From the website to the browser extension
The website made searching and copying much easier, but opening or switching tabs still interrupted writing. We therefore built the browser extension to bring search, categories, recent items, and copying closer to the browser where the work is happening.
No registration is required. The extension is available from the Chrome Web Store, Mozilla Add-ons, and Microsoft Edge Add-ons.
What we build
EmojiClip is a free emoji search and copy tool. The extension combines a classic popup, a bottom clipboard for collecting several emoji, and a fast command palette. Recent items, clipboard drafts, and preferences stay in the current browser. Each interface loads its localized data and only the necessary English fallback.
Online features we do not provide
EmojiClip has no user account, cloud synchronization, cross-device backup, automatic insertion into web pages, or AI recommendations. Favorites, groups, combinations, drafts, and preferences are stored only by the extension and are not uploaded to an EmojiClip server.
Content and data
Emoji characters, standard names, and categories come from open data in the Unicode ecosystem and are presented through this project’s search and localization. Our guides draw on product behavior, Unicode rules, and real communication scenarios instead of creating repetitive pages for every individual symbol.
